Résumé: The Remote Networked School (RNS) model is eco-systemic. Partnership, collaborative teaching and learning and knowledge building are its main characteristics. Applying a cultural-historical activity theory (CHAT) perspective, we present the evolution of its co-design (2002-2019) by university researchers, a knowledge transfer organization with a state mandate, and teachers and administrators from partner schools and school districts. Interactions within and between three distinct sub-systems are examined to this end, and characteristics are identified. Tensions/contradictions that have been overcome and persisting tensions in the way of sustainability and scalability are pointed out. Implications for deploying digital technology and community-based learning approaches will be drawn.
