Résumé: This article proposes to identify the various practices implemented by the principals of Québec’s public elementary and secondary schools in order to ensure the academic and educational success of the greatest number of students during the first wave of COVID-19 in 2020. The analysis is based on data collected through semi-structured interviews with twelve school principals and vice-principals. The analysis of the results reveals practices related to budget and financial management, human resources management, leadership, planning and communication. The directors’ and assistant directors’ views on their crisis management practices are discussed in terms of the skills they need to develop during their training and throughout their career.
