Résumé: Cardiovascular disease is a growing health issue among Indigenous peoples in Canada. In addition, it appears that cardiovascular risk factor modification is lacking in this population. Purpose: The objective of this scoping review is to present a comprehensive analysis of the literature regarding dietary and physical activity behaviours among Indigenous Canadian peoples over the last ten years. Methods: This scoping review was conducted using the methodology of Arksey and O'Malley (2005). Results: Thirty studies examining the dietary and/or physical activity behaviours of Indigenous peoples were included in the review. The food transition among Indigenous peoples is reflected by a decrease in the traditional diet, resulting in decreased nutritional quality. It appears that most Indigenous peoples are engaged in regular physical activity, despite physical, economic, and political barriers. Conclusions: Although these results corroborate earlier findings, additional nursing studies are needed to explore strategies for cardiovascular risk factor reduction in Canadian Indigenous peoples.
